Enjoying Pasquetta, Italian style!
Discover Bolgeri Bolgheri Bianco DOC
Reading Time: 6 mins
As Easter approaches and all families are getting ready to spend time with their loved ones having lunch on Sunday, I would like to switch my focus on this article towards Easter Monday, so called “Lunedi Santo” or “Pasquetta” in Italy.
Easter Monday holds a significant social and cultural importance in Italian tradition much like Easter Sunday itself.
One of the most popular ways to celebrate Easter Monday is spending it outdoors carrying out activities such as Pic-nics and outings to the countryside; the ideal time to gather with your family and loved ones, to enjoy the blossoming of the vines and reveal the arrival of spring.
Picture this: it’s Easter Monday, Pasquetta, in Tuscany, and the air is filled with a sense of joy and friendship. As the spring sun warms up the air, friends gather outdoor, with the gentle breeze carrying laughter and the aroma of delicious food. Conversations flow freely, mingling with the sound of clinking wine glasses and cheerful chatter. It’s a day where time seems to slow down, allowing for moments of pure connection and blissful relaxation!
I will personally follow the tradition with my family and friends outdoors carrying out a picnic, and by making this outing even more special I will be bringing with me a couple of bottles of Borgeri “Bolgheri Bianco” by Giorgio Meletti Cavallari. This wine is a perfect companion to pair the oncoming festive spring season: its gentle fresh notes walk hand in hand with the blossoming period we will get to experience this weekend, hopefully!
This refreshing white comes from one of the most famous appellations that Italy holds: Bolgheri DOC, where Giorgio Meletti Cavallari established his winery back in 2002, carefully managing 7 hectares of vineyards.
Since Giorgio was young he had always taken part in helping out in his father, Pier Mario Meletti Cavallari, one of the founder of the appellation with the winery Grattamacco. Once completed his enology studies, he decided to continue his wine journey on his own.
2002 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Giorgio: his father decided to kindly gift him a certain amount of land situated at 350 meters a.s.l, which are deemed as the best vineyards to hold in the Bolgheri appellation, and Giorgio finally established his own winery, differentiating his estate and wines with his own thumbprint on the logo and labels, adding a sense of authenticity and providing personal connection to his craft.
This Bolgheri Bianco is a blend of 70% Vermentino, an aromatic variety that adapts perfectly to the Bolgheri appellation climate, and 30% Viognier.
The grapes are pressed and carry out a natural decantation, alcoholic fermentation happens with selected yeast at a controlled temperature, and the vinification ends with 4 months in stainless steel and 3 months in the bottle, prior release.
The name itself “Borgeri” refers to the name of the area given by Leonardo da Vinci, in a map created in 1453; having found a copy of this map, Giorgio decided to use this ancient name on his 4 wines, creating a strong bond with the heritage of the place.
Borgeri Bolgheri Bianco DOC offers a straw yellow color with greenish reflections, intense and complex aromas of white fresh fruits such as banana and pear, with subtle hints of citrus and yellow fruits. The taste offered by Borgeri is a perfect match for an afternoon shared with the people you love most, as it provides an harmonious and savory taste with a good persistence.
